Arlen Semper carries during spring drills Wednesday at Lyman Ward Military Academy. Second-year head coach Sheldon Ward and the Rangers will practice for 15 days before hosting a spring game April 17 against Restoration Academy. |
Having to carry a big load will be Sophomore Running Back, Justin Quinn. Quinn had to wear big shoes last season starting as a freshman. Last season he gained 737 yards on 148 carries with 5 touchdowns. He will have to step up big to help replace the departed Justin Minor and Kyle Johnson, who both accounted for 30 touchdowns and well over 2,000 total yards. To help carry that load will be newcomer, John Koob. Koob will be a great X-Factor at the QB position and should be able to lead the Rangers through the 2009 season. The offensive line will be lead by Seniors, Kaylen Sampson and Dewey Pitts. Both are returning starters and really know what the program expectations are.
As it was last season, the defensive side will be the main focus this spring. After giving up a total of 360 points, the hiring of new Defensive Coordinator, John Noel, the Rangers should be able to have the defensive unit to be their strength to be able to push for one of the playoff spots in the AISA 1A East Region. Coach Ward really sees that opportunity to be attainable. The Rangers will take advantage of the 15 days of practice and will host Restoration Academy on April 17th at Ranger Field. Game time will be 6pm.
