CAMP HILL, AL --- Lyman Ward Military Academy will host a four-day substance abuse workshop on campus Oct. 13 – 16, 2008
FCD (Freedom from Chemical Dependency) Educational Services, a nonprofit substance abuse prevention organization based in Newton, MA, will conduct the workshop for all cadets in grades 6 – 12. The workshop will be conducted by professional educators who will discuss the risks and realities of alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse
MAJ Jeff Damron, the Academy counselor, believes the program will build on the excellent foundation established last year, when FCD conducted an intensive, one-day workshop for all cadets on campus
“This organization is very thorough and highly professional in its approach to a vitally important topic,†Damron says. “They engage the students in a conversation about these important matters that affect millions of Americans, and wreck countless lives
“We are committed, as a military boarding school, to providing our cadets with all the information and skills they need to make intelligent life choices as we send them out into the world. We desperately want the best for them, and this workshop is just one of our efforts to let our cadets know that we believe it is important to confront the tough issues of life head-on.
More information concerning the workshop may be obtained by contacting MAJ Damron through the Academy office.
