Eligibility


Lyman Ward participates in sports as a member of the Alabama Independent School Association. The key to athletic participation is success in the classroom. Please review some of the key eligibility rules below concerning new and currently enrolled student athletes.

  1. Seventh and Eighth graders must pass the previous year to be eligible
  2. Students in grades 10 -12 must have passed Six(6) credits the previous year to be eligible. Four(4) of these credits must be core subjects
  3. Grades 10-12 may become eligible by passing 2.5 new credits during their first semester at LWMA
  4. Students transferring from a non-AISA school to LWMA will be eligible for competition following a two week (10 school day) waiting period
  5. Students transferring from Home School and/or Non-Traditional school programs in Grades 10 or higher will earn eligibility AFTER completing one semester of academic requirements
  6. Courses taken in summer school may be used in determining eligibility
  7. Independent Study courses and tutorials may NOT be used to determine athletic eligibility
  8. ALL ATHLETES - Before participating in athletics, a student must have a current physicians statement, medical history form, medical treatment form, certified birth certificate, Social Security number, and a parent's permission to participate
