Summer School

summer school brochure

The Academy's Summer School program is designed to provide thorough academic preparation in order for students to recognize and achieve their potential.

Lyman Ward offers a balanced summer program for those parents and students interested in a fun yet challenging way to spend the summer. A month long summer school begins in mid-June and ends in mid – July. Students may remain on campus at the conclusion of the summer school to attend the two week summer camp. The summer school program is designed to offer students in grades 9-12 an opportunity to earn one (1) credit by successfully completing one course. Students entering grades 6-8 generally take two (2) subjects in areas designed to strengthen skills for high school. Students not enrolled at Lyman Ward are also accepted for the summer school and camp programs. Recreational activities combined with the summer school include trips to area water parks, Ft. Benning , Montgomery Biscuits baseball, and nearby Lake Martin.

Students will experience a rigorous schedule in the academic discipline of their choice, daily activities, and supervised evening study. For students who stay the weekends, activities include trips to area cultural and recreational areas.

Summer School students also will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with flag etiquette, and the cadet drill and ceremony in preparation for Fall enrollment.

Day students, who reside within a 30 mile radius of Camp Hill, are welcome.

Activities

On-campus afternoon and evening activities include swimming, basketball, weight training, billiards, ping-pong, touch football, and movies in the recreation center. Weekend outings include hiking, fishing, bowling, water skiing, and visits to area educational, cultural, and recreational venues.
