Advanced Placement

We offer a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses through Apex Learning of Seattle, WA, and administers AP examinations in May of each year. Because of their academic rigor, AP courses are assigned a weighted grade. Acceptable scores may enable students to earn college credit by demonstrating competence in freshman college level work.

AP courses are offered only to seniors and juniors who have earned an overall 3.0 average in all academic course work, and upon the recommendation and approval of the AP Coordinator and the Academic Dean. In past years, Lyman Ward cadets have completed AP courses in U.S. Economics, English Languages and Composition, U.S. Government, U.S. History, and Psychology.

Students and parents should be sensitive to the demanding nature of AP courses. There are extensive reading and writing expectations for these courses. AP courses are considered college-level, and place strong emphasis on the student's self-motivation, study skills, and the ability to direct his own learning.

AP courses incur and additional cost. More information is available from our AP Coordinator, Captain Dee Orem.
